Little Heaven
(A Project  for children living with HIV/AIDS)

The Problem for Project Intervention
According to the HIV Prevention National Road Map of Ethiopia (2018-2020), in 2017 there were an estimated 613,000 people living with HIV, of whom 62 percent were female. The HIV prevalence among women and men aged 15-49 in Ethiopia is 0.9 percent. Additionally, the HIV prevalence among women at the age of 15-49 is 1.2%, with a peak of 3% in the age group of 40-44 years. For men in the same age group, the HIV prevalence is 0.6%, with a peak of 1.6% in the age group of 40-49 years.

The HIV epidemic in Ethiopia is diverse, varying by sex, geographic areas, and population groups. Among women and men combined, the HIV prevalence is seven times higher in urban areas than in rural areas (2.9% versus 0.4%). Specifically, HIV prevalence is 3.6% among women in urban areas compared with 0.6% among women in rural areas.
According to the Ethiopia Country Operational Plan 2018 Strategic Direction Summary, as of 2017, approximately 4 million children lost one or both of their parents due to HIV/AIDS, with about 1 million children living with the disease. One of the primary impacts of HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia is the increasing number of vulnerable children who have lost their parents to the epidemic and lack family support during their time of greatest need. A program for “Children Living with HIV/AIDs" is one of the projects SDE has started since 2004. The very reason why this project came into practice is to contribute to the efforts being made in the country to limit the adverse effects of HIV/AIDs on orphaned children.

General Objectives
The main goal of this project is to reduce the negative impact of HIV/AIDS on orphaned and vulnerable children by offering comprehensive support. The specific objectives of the project are:
